Gingival Grafting

Gingival grafting is done to create a strong barrier of gum tissue to help prevent recession, bone damage and the possible eventual loss of the tooth or teeth.

Occasionally root coverage is attempted for esthetic reasons. Special techniques are required for this. Usually the graft does not cover the exposed root surface.

A local anesthetic is used for this procedure and the donor tissue is often taken from the roof of your mouth. A periodontal bandage is placed over both areas for your comfort. There is usually minimal discomfort following this procedure.
