What you call it is not important. What you do about it is! Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums and bone surrounding your teeth. As it progresses, it usually destroys the bone which supports your teeth. Periodontal disease is almost as common as the common cold--three out of four adults will suffer from it. It is the major cause of tooth loss in adults. Although there are warning signs, the disease is painless and often not taken seriously, especially in the early stages when treatment is most effective. Fortunately, with proper care, periodontal disease can be controlled--even prevented. Your First Visit We recognize that many people are at first confused and apprehensive about the prospect of periodontal treatment. Your questions and concerns are our number one priority and we invite you to discuss them with us at any time. We want our relationship with you to be one of trust, comfort and security. At your first visit we will immediately take care of any emergency problems or discomfort. We will ask you to share with us your health history and we will perform a periodontal and oral cancer examination. With your permission, we will take those X-rays necessary to make an accurate diagnosis. We will discuss our diagnosis in detail with you, along with the treatment necessary to achieve the oral health you desire. Treatment Seeking periodontal treatment is your first step toward restoring your gums and mouth to good health and keeping your teeth for a lifetime. Your treatment options will depend upon the severity of your condition. These will be explained to you thoroughly with every opportunity for your input. Together we will arrive at a treatment plan which fits your personal needs. Our recommendations are always based on the most conservative therapy necessary to achieve the results you desire. Please feel free to ask us any questions at any time. During the course of your therapy and upon completion of your treatment, we will maintain close communication with your dentist. The Benefits of Periodontal Therapy The benefits of preserving your own teeth through periodontal therapy are many and lasting. They include better health and comfort; improved appearance, chewing and speech; elimination of bad odors and tastes; reduction in long-term dental expense and elimination of dental emergencies; and increased self-esteem and happiness. Most importantly, periodontal therapy can save your teeth--those wonders of biologic engineering which are so much a part of total physical and psychological health and happiness--the loss of which leaves a person never quite the same. You Are Worth It! In the final analysis, the best reason for taking care of your teeth is you--your well-being, your confidence in yourself, your career, your social and personal life. The rewards of investing in better health can be yours! Information | Procedures | People | Our Office | E-Mail Us Periodontal Associates | (303) 755-4500 |
