Location: Habitat is wetland open water. The nest is at the end of an unlined chamber dug in a sand or gravel bank. Burrows range from 3.5 to 6 feet in depth.

Eggs: Elliptical, smooth, white, and glossy. 27x34 mm

Defense: The pair will patroll a large section of stream corridor driving out other kingfishers and announcing their dispeasure at the presence of human intruders with their resonating call.
