Old Minutes *next week's facilitators (Emily and Jesse) Written up by Kent, rbasset1 The following are the super-fascinating minutes of SPAC: I. Conscientious objector The dude who talked was smart. Maya: maybe we should make a draft educational or fact sheet from his knowledge. Becoming a CO is complicated. You can't use just war theory, you must object to ALL wars categorically. Did you know? The draft might be reinstated some day. Probably not, though. Maybe we will just have universal military training, said Maya. II. campus-wide meeting Not as good of a showing last week. There is gonna be another next Monday. Maya in charge. Will email space. There was a alum fellow who thought we should advertise anti-war events in the phoenix and also send out reserved student emails up to once a week. Good faculty for sending reserved-student emails are the following: jeffrey Murer, POLI SCI; Marj Murphy, HIST; Camacho de Schmidt, Literatures; S. Willie, SOCANTH. Just for future reference. The anti-war board is up and running! People have been spotted reading from its contents. It is located cata-corner from the registrar's office. Nice work whoever did that. III. Protests Approaching 3/31/03 -- President Shrub in Philly tomorrow! Holy Hell! He's gonna talk about homeland security with our former gov. Ridge. It should be an interesting engagement. People are going to protest it though. See other previous SPAC emails for details. 4/5/03 Campus Action Network protest in DC 4/12/03 BRING YOUR PARENTS to the ANSWER (Act Now to blah, blah ...) protest in DC (cuz it's parent's weekend) we're gonna be a mobilizin' cars and interest while tabling in the next week. I think maya's in charge of the cars, but I could be wrong about that. Maya? The ANSWER protest will coincide with an International Monetary Fund-World Bank / School of the Americas protest extravaganza during that week. IV. Tabling this week for toiletries for Iraqi refugees. This is not illegal - - don't worry. Harris is in charge. Sign up sheet below. IV. Divestment Everything delayed. Way to go, Bush. Boy is he inconsiderate going to war in the middle of our divestment campaign. Educational delayed, collection delayed, all for this darned war. There may be a meeting with Bob Smith from Brandywine. I don't know why that is in the minutes. Just a heads up, I guess. V. The part you've all been waiting for: FUCKIN' FUN FAIR in the frickin VILLE! Marissa in charge. She's gonna be face paintin' and fortune telling, taking money from poor kids who don't know any better and chanelling it to underground anti-war efforts. Just kidding. um, email her for the actual details. It is this SUNDAY, the SIXTH of APRIL. It will be fund-raising event. Jesse HATES the fun fair because it is loud and he used to live nearby, and that made him angry. VI. Spec "Weekend" actually isn't a weekend at all. We're living in a SOCIETY! It's Wed-Fri, April 16th-18th. We're going to have a meeting for those lefty prospies. Harris in charge. Maya in charge of the activities fair that weekend. Go, you two! The future of the Swarthmore left depends on you. VI. Direction. SPAC has no direction. In fact, we didn't even have time to TALK about our lack of direction. That is the state of the world. I blame the Hate-America Left, personally. They're always messing up our game. VII. There is going to be a SPAC web page. If you want to help, have ideas, have some documents that should go up, email me, Kent, at rbasset1@swarthmore.edu, or give me a call at 610-690-7627. You don't have to have any prior experience with web stuff to help. Help wanted! Danny will help, he said. Any others?
