Achieving Black and Latino Leaders of Excellence

ABLLE, or Achieving Black and Latino Leaders of Excellence, was formed in November 2006 as a closed group for Black and Latino men on campus. The group's three pillars are academic excellence, cultural rootedness, and civic engagement, a combination which shows that it is not just a support group but also a group that will be proactive about promoting a positive image of Black and Latino men and about fighting injustices in the larger community. Class Activists

Class Activists encourages dialogue about issues of socioeconomic class on the Swarthmore campus. Every November, the groups hosts Class Awareness Month. More info.

Colors

Colors is a closed group for students who identify as queer/questioning and of color. Meetings are held once a week in the SQU Room in the Intercultural Center. More info.

Deshi

Deshi is an organization for students of all backgrounds who are interested in promoting increased awareness of the political, cultural, and social issues pertaining to South Asia, South Asians, and South Asian Americans. More info.

Friends of Taiwan

Friends of Taiwan is a group that seeks to provide both a social and cultural outlet for students on campus who are Taiwanese and/or interested in Taiwan. They participate and host a variety of events including group dinners, conferences, and discussions. More info.

Han

Han is the Swarthmore Korean Alliance. Its members are devoted to nurturing community and participating in shared culture. More info.

i20

The International Club - known as I-20 after the form that allows foreign students entry into the United States - brings together around 100 students from 35 countries. For international students, I-20 is a home-away-from-home, and for American students, it is a place to learn about global cultures on campus. Most international students remember I-20 as their first real taste of Swarthmore, when they arrive for a 3-day freshman orientation, often directly off the plane and jetlagged. More info.

Middle Eastern Cultural Society

The Middle Eastern Cultural Society (MECS) is an open group, which aims to provide students interested in the cultural aspects of the Middle Eastern with a forum for exploration and discussion; to bring together the Middle Eastern (including North African) community on campus; and to promote awareness of Middle Eastern culture on campus. MECS holds bimonthly meetings during which discussions, community building, and event planning take place. MECS events include, but are not limited to, movie screenings, lectures, cultural performances, cultural workshops, and culturally-relevant off-campus trips. More info.

Multi

Multi is an organization dedicated to providing a safe environment for people of multiple heritages in the Swarthmore communit, whether they are of various class, cultural, ethnic, racial, or religious backgrounds. More info.

Queer Straight Alliance (QSA)

QSA seeks to create a space for queer and straight people to come together to address queer issues on campus and in the world. The group aims to create dialogue on topics relating to sexual orientation and gender in the hopes of improving student awareness of queer issues and encourage studens to explore their perspectives and views of them. Swarthmore Asian Organization

SAO is a social, educational, political, and cultural group open to Swarthmore students who self-identify as an Asian (East Asian, South Asian, South East Asian), Asian-American, or Pacific Islander. SAO is committed to providing a place for Asian Pacific Islander Americans (APIAs) to find community and support. More info.

Swarthmore African Students Association (SASA)

SASA is dedicated to the cultural enrichment of the campus through education on issues concerning Africa, and the varying cultures within Africa. It is an open organization that serves as a support group for African students on campus. More info.

Swarthmore African American Student Society (SASS)

SASS intends to provide support for its members primarily through political and community-building activities. The groups major goals are to increase the number of Black students, faculty, and staff members; infuse a greater Black perspective into the curriculum; and maintain a strong, supportive Black community. Students of Caribbean Ancestry (SOCA)

SOCA works to present a clear conception of the Caribbean to the entire student body and also supports students of Caribbean ancestry at Swat. More info.

Swarthmore Queer Union (SQU)

SQU is an organization dedicated to supporting queer and questioning students at Swat by creating a safe space for discussion and self-expression. They seek to create spaces where queer and questioning students are able to share experiences, build support networks, educate themselves and others and develop strategies to combat oppression.
