Films of Fury is a Swarthmore College student run club for fans of over-the-top action films from Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Korea. We show a film every Thursday night at 7:30 in the SCCS Media Lounge; be it martial arts, bullet ballet, horror, or even a bit artsy, it's sure to be furious. Almost all of the features we show have been or soon will be donated to the McCabe library video collection.

Our Illustrious Mission Statement

While probably a decent percentage of the Swarthmore community has seen John Woo's "The Killer" or any one of Woo's Hollywood produced movies, Hong Kong, the third largest movie industry of the world, has plenty of other equally talented directors whose works the average Swarthmore student probably has not had the opportunity to see. Films of Fury will focus on showing the classics of Hong Kong cinema, which are almost always accessible and easy for the western viewer to enjoy, yet impossible for anyone but the most devoted fan to find anywhere in the US. Films shown will be meant to expose the community to a range of genres including kung fu, gangster, horror, and comedy. Occasional forays into Japanese and Hong Kong-influenced independent films will also be included. The aim of these events will primarily be entertainment, but also exposure to the origins of many film techniques adopted by Hollywood and important Asian cultural themes that are present in many of these films.
