"Cornell is a veritable candyland of fun!" - Will Tracy '98

One evening in Cornell, as I listened to the closing buzzer chime for the fifth straight day, it occurred to me that I spend entirely too much time in the garnet carpeted refuge of Swarthmore science majors. It's impossible to count the hours I've spent leaning over my books at the tables in the basement in a hopeless attempt to understand material I was supposed to have learned two weeks prior, or the many more I've spent laughing during an unofficial "study break."

On the surface the place looks normal enough, but when exams roll around the insanity shows through. Yes, I have actually seen people climbing the walls before.

When study gets a bit too much, there's always someone who's more fed up with it than you are.tarek.cornell.jpeg

On a recent friday evening, I sat in the deserted basment of Cornell, hunched over "The Cell" in an attempt to understand the cytoplasm. A couple people came halfway down the stairs and glanced around, looking for someone.

"Nope, it's just me." I said.
"You're the only one down here?" One of them responded.
"I think so."
"Courage" He smiles and heads back up the stairs.

I chuckle softly and turn back to my Cell.
