Organizations

The following cultural organizations have web sites of their own.

For those groups who do not have web sites, we have provided a
summary of their activities.
DESHI (South Asian Students Group)
DESHI is for students of all backgrounds who are interested in
promoting increases awareness of the political, cultural, and social
issues pertaining to South Asia and South Asian Americans. Formally
established in 1995, they plan to collaborate with the Swarthmore Asian
Organization in order to bring off-campus speakers from various
disciplines to Swarthmore and to organize discussion groups on political
developments in South Asia. DESHI sponsors cultural events on campus and
meets regularly to dine on Indian food.
HOLA (Hispanic Organization for Latin American Awareness)
HOLA sponsors a variety of programs, activites, and events that
contribute to the understanding of the Hispanic/Latino experience at
Swarthmore and beyond. HOLA is open to all students with any cultural
hertiage or tie to Latin America and other Spanish speaking countries.
HOLA offices are in the Intercultural Center located in the Cloisters of
Clothier Hall.
International Club
The International club is mainly a social organization. They gather
once a week in Sharples dining hass. Every year they organize two main
events: the International Club Faculty Dinner and the International
Cultural Evening. American students are welcome and encouraged to

Lesbian, Bisexual, and Gay Alliance
(LBGA)
LBGA meet to discuss local and world issues affecting the queer
community, to develop awareness/outreach events, and to provide a support
network. They sponsor events including speakers, workshops, awareness
week, coming out groups, open meetings, and parties throughout the year.
Thier offices are located at the Intercultural Center in the Cloisters of
Clothier Hall.
Swarthmore African Students Association (SASA)
SASA is a support group that was formed to address isssues affecting
the lives of African students on the Swarthmore campus. Its activities
include celebrating African heritage with an African fair consisting of
music and dance, an arts exhibition, a talk on African medicine, and a
dinner of African delicacies.

Women of Color
Women of Color is a group of women students, faculty, staff, and
admistrators of color. It functions as a source of social and political
activism, social organization, and a locu for information communication.

Swarthmore Zionist Connection
The Swarthmore Zionist connection is committed to learning about
Israel's history, culture, and current political situation. Past events
have included a trip to New York City to hear Shimon Peres, the Israeli
Foreign Minister, speak, a conference in Washington D.C., and a lecture on
environmental issues and the peace process. For more information contact
