sleeping beauty

november 25, 1998

A princess sleeps in a crystal globe,
Heedless of emptiness all around her.
She is far from her world, far from her home,
Watching shadows that surround her.
How long has she slept in a world of her own?
Questions in the mist confound her.
Thoughts fsoat vaguely through the shadows:
How long's it been since they have bound her?

Sleepless, she drifts in eternal night,
Mindless, she cannot free herself.
The world is a dream that's drifting by,
Full of stories she can't tell.
All that she sees, all that she knows,
Forms in her mind, like shifting clouds.
Forever unsure, as she sees it go,
She can't know where she is, it's not allowed.

Thinking she lives in her world of dreams,
Wondering why she can't fit in,
Why she doesn't feel, she cannot see
That it's a dream she's living in.
The last dream fades, the next begins,
Oblivious to the passage of time.
She longs to live, burning within,
But she is trapped inside her mind.
