In this lab, we used different methods to estimate the amount of skylight
allowed through the canopies of two different types of trees at various times
over a four month period. Our analysis is meant to test the hypothesis that
the non-native Norway Maple tends to block more light than native American
Beech trees. We found that while the Maple does tend to block more light in
the early months, towards the end of the period, the difference between the
two is minimal. We also found that various methods of choosing a threshold
for an image can have very different results.
