Rebecca's Favorite Parenting References
Now that I have become a parent, I like to consider myself an expert.
Of course, that would be an exaggeration. However, I have read a few
books, so I will recommend some of my favorites.
- Our
Babies, Ourselves (by Margaret Small): This is the "theoretical
introduction" to parenting. It discusses how different cultures parent,
and how people have tried to study the effects of parenting styles on
children.
- The
Baby Book (by Sears and Sears): This is my favorite guide to
practical baby-care (up to age 2). The Sears family has written
numerous books, and they also have a
website with most of the same information.
- Playful
Parenting (by Lawrence Cohen): This book discusses the importance of
playing with your children (and letting them lead the play) as a way to
communicate with them.
If you want to switch from reading about parenting to reading about
statistics, you can go to my pages of statistics
(and math and economics) summary pages.
