In the beginning did goddesses three
Stretch out the land and the sky and the sea,
Granting wisdom and courage and power of old,
So that in every age the same legend is told:

Wisdom and courage and power are one,
And whoso shall claim them, his will shall be done;
And if he be wicked, then evil shall reign
Till the goddesses' champions rise up again:

	In every age a hero shall waken,
	Be ever the darkness so vast,
	And he'll take up the sword as have heroes before,
	And he'll forge a new link to the past!

	The princess he seeks shall show him a token,
	Should power rise up to destroy;
	Then shall wisdom be found, though the Triforce be broken,
	And bound to the courage of one little boy!

Who knows how many an age has gone by?
The legend repeats, and who understands why?
Some say it's a prophecy, yet to come true,
But the darkness returns, and the heroes do, too.

Over the hills and the wide, rolling sea,
The shadow comes back, but there always shall be
One brave little boy and one wise little girl
To battle the darkness that threatens the world:

	In every age a hero shall waken...

Ages may pass but some things stay the same:
The princess must always be "Zelda" by name.
And the name of the hero must always be "Link",
And the sages say that means much more than you think:

For "Zelda" means warrior, solid as stone,
Befitting the princess enduring alone,
And the meaning of "Link" is as plain as the text:
One link in the chain from one age to the next.

	In every age a hero shall waken...

	Though the ages roll on, though the darkness be vast,
	Zelda's legend shall forge a new link to the past!
