"Beyond the Far Horizon" lyrics and music by Benjamin Newman / G - Em - / G C G D / G D Em C / / G D G - / Out beyond the far horizon, Are there other lands than these; The further shores of our own seas, Whereon dwell men of other breeds? My friends, there are indeed! For a thousand generations Have the ancient songs been sung, Of how these seven isles were one Until the rising ocean green Drowned the lands between. / " / " / " / G D C D / C - D - / If these seven isles were one, But sundered by the rising tide, Might not then the ocean wide Sunder us from lands unknown, Which once had touched our own? Just before the far horizon, There's an isle to windward west The lee of whose bare, rocky crest Did shelter once my crew and me From winter's stormy sea But upon that little island No sweet water did we find, And so we left that isle behind, But first my mate I did implore To scout the windward shore. When at length my mate returned, The tale he told was strange and wild; For just around that very isle Were beached the shells of ships of shapes Our shipwrights know not how to make! From beyond the far horizon I believe these ships had sailed, Until, at last, their water failed, And so their ships they drew aground, But no sweet water found. Somewhere off in that direction There must be a peopled land! My friends, I wish to shake their hand! I wish that we might someday meet, So let us send a fleet... Out beyond the far horizon, Where we've never sailed before. I think it's time that we explore! The world we knew is far too small -- / C - D - / G - - - / The far horizon calls!
