My fascination with Mel Brooks started when I was about three years old. Blazing Saddles was on TV, and my dad taped the segment where Mel plays a Yiddish-speaking Indian chief. We sat together and watched it again and again and again. It was one of those special father-son bonding moments.
At the time, I had little appreciation of what I was watching. With age, however, I have come to a better appreciation of the brilliance of that scene, the creativity of Mel Brooks' humor and the genius of his take on life.
