WELCOME

Welcome to the Greening of Campus web site. We are the Engineering 31: Sustainable Development class at Swarthmore College. In Fall 2000, we decided to embark on a Greening of Campus project. We believe that if you want to change the world, the change must come first from yourself. Please join us in learning more about creating sustainability in our lifestyles for our communities.

STATEMENT OF OBJECTIVES

The objectives of our Greening of Campus Project are:

  • To perform an evaluation of the environmental situation on our campus by identifying the strengths and weaknesses in our existing approaches to sustainability
  • To evaluate the existing curriculum by gauging whether or not sustainability and environmental issues are properly addressed
  • To recommend immediate and long-term steps towards sustainability on campus
  • To calculate sustainability factors which would help us compare our college with other institutions of learning
