Meet Elisa Nigrini!

In high school Elisa Nigrini Õ99 served as a peer counselor and tutored elementary school students in math and science. At Swarthmore she has been part of the CIVIC group, ROCK (Reading Organization for Chester Kids), a group which works in Chester with children on literacy issues by creating activities. This summer she worked as a counselor at ÒTouch the EarthÓ day camp where she led hikes and creative nature projects to encourage environmental responsibility in the 6 to 12 year old girls and boys of her community. Two special needs children were included in the camp and Elisa also worked with a counselor in association with ChildrenÕs Hospital of Pittsburgh. Elisa hopes to explore natural sciences with the girls in the Summer Community Learning Project and provide them with basic principles of the natural world. She hopes to provide the girls with an alternative way of viewing the world surrounding them and an excitement for discovery. From this program, Elisa wants to gain a better understanding of adolescent development.
