september 25th: overnight housing news
Okay...here's the deal.
Pat James responded to my intitial email about our program and our housing
request. Initially (last night) she said she wanted to meet with us to
discuss our goals and so she could get a feel for our vision and energy.
THen she emailed me this morning saying that there is "no housing space on
campus for this summer...zero..zippo." She explained that due to renovation
housing will not be an option. I know...it sucks.
She then went on to say that they are currently accepting proposals for the
summer of '03, but even *that* summer will be tight. (Not that next summer
is really an issue for us at the moment, anyhow.) The ONLY positive I saw in
her email is that she is excited the program is getting off the ground
again...and said she'd help us in any way she can. So...is there any other
option for housing?? I can't believe that the possibility of having an
overnight program would be shut down so quickly and decisively. If you guys
would like me to contact anyone else, I definitely will. Ughh...I hate being
the bearer of bad news. Take care, everyone.

ok guys....
well, that clearly sucks. i have trouble believing it completely and i
think that we should check with paula dale since she's the space person
(would you be willing to do that, sarah w?). also, i know that lots of
camps are run out of swat in the summer, but most of them don't start
until later... you're sure she understood that it was just for the two
weeks from around june 15th - july 1st (i'm sure between sarah w and me
living in the area we can find housing for us for the rest of the time
we'd need to be here). right. so i just find it really unbelievable. or
maybe i'm just stubborn. but i think we should check on it more. we'd
just need one hall and i know that people will be working alumni weekend
until around then, where will they have been living? parrish usually. so
we should be able to take over one of their halls. last time sclp was on
parrish 2nd. yeah...
also, we shouldn't let this discourage us completely. we still clearly
have the option of doing a two week day camp. just so you all know,
that's what sclp had to do last time they ran it - the first year was a
two week day camp, the second year a one week overnight camp. and maybe
we should reserve the space now for the summer afterwards since hopefully
this will still be going...
thanks for checking this out, sarah. maybe talk to paula dale to make
sure and ask pat if we can reserve space for the summer after this one.
peace,
sorelle
Hey guys...
Sorelle, I had the same feeling that getting housing couldn't possibly be out
of the question *already*, but here's another problem...Pat forwarded my
email to Paula, and she responded the same way -- NO option of housing this
summer AT ALL. What else can we do? However, having vented this
frustration...I agree that a day camp would still be great. Maybe it would
be good in many ways in terms of this being our first year getting it back
off the ground...and then next summer we can do a full stay. And yes...it
should be fairly easy to get housing for us. I can help you check that out
wheenever you'd like to start. Sorry, guys...
