> Grant year:     July 1, 2002-June 30, 2003 (one-year grant) July 1,
> 2002-June 30, 2004 (two-year grant)
> Community Action Grants provide seed money to individual women, AAUW
> branches, AAUW state organizations, and local community-based nonprofit
> organizations for innovative programs or nondegree research projects that
> promote education and equity for women and girls.
> Applicants must be women who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Grant
> projects must have direct public impact, be nonpartisan, and take place
> within the United States or its territories.
> Two types of grants are available:
> *       One-year grants for start-up projects. Topic areas are unrestricted
> but should promote education and equity for women and girls.
> *       Two-year grants are restricted for projects focused on K-12 girls'
> achievement in math, science, and/or technology. Projects must involve
> community/school collaboration. Funds support planning and
> coalition-building activities during the first year and implementation and
> evaluation the following year.
> Special consideration is given to individual AAUW members and AAUW branch
> and state applicants who seek collaborative partners. Applications from
> women of color and those from underrepresented groups as well as
> applications that meet the needs of underserved women and girls are
> especially encouraged.
> Limited technical assistance for preparing applications is provided by the
> Foundation upon request. Applicants who are not selected may reapply once
> for the same proposed project.
> Approximately 20 to 30 grants are available for one-year projects. Up to
> five grants are available for two-year projects.
