Mixing up the basics: conversations, faith falls and the four spritual laws...

It's not what you think. There was no confusion as to where we stood with
the basics. It's just that the best word to describe our attempt to do God's 
work in Paraguay is the Japanese word chanpon. I guess the closest word
in English would be hodgepodge. What can one ministry team do with so 
many variables to cover? In a town that sits on the border of Paraguay and 
Brasil, with four spoken languages and people of all ages, the congregation
naturally straddles that border and incorporates a wide range of people in 
the Japanese community.

In order to bridge all these elements God called together a mixed cast of 
characters: Lester and Michelle Yamashita, a sansei (3rd generation)
pastor and his nissei wife from northern California; Linda, a nissei 
woman fresh out of UC Santa Barbara; Betty, a Berkeley alum who was also a
veteran of the JEMS Spanish speaking team from the year before; me, a happa 
(half Japanese) college student; and Miroca, from Londrina, Brasil, who 
speaks Portuguese, English and Japanese, plus she's awesome with a guitar...
