About us

In Fall 2005, a group of American students studying in Berlin traveled to Serbia and visited a community of Roma - better known, innacurately, as gypsies. What they saw there led to the creation of this organization.
What did they see? A simple school, standing in the middle of this poor community, unused. Originally built by UNICEF, the school is now home only to a horse. The community lacks the funds necessary to open and maintain it.
That community was home not just to an abandoned school, but to children abandoned along with it. Children with the same smiles, brains, and curiosity of children everywhere, but without the means to pursue their dreams. Children destined to be sent to special education programs in Serbian schools because they do not speak the Serbian language no one would teach them.
This organization exists to serve those children. We raise funds and pursue grants to hire teachers, buy books, and maintain the Our Way School. Thank you for visiting our site. Help us give a better future to the Roma children.
