IC INTERNS MEETING MINUTES
NOVEMBER 18 TH 2003
A section of the cork board in the IC will be used as all-IC space for posting news clippings and interesting articles.
All-IC List Serve: This list serve needs to be defined; what do we post on it and who is included on the list; FIRST step à get the board members on the list first and then we can expand.
The IC will be purchasing a Digital Camera; Powen is researching prices and models through consumer reports
We are waiting on the ITS Associates to be available to work on the IC Website; ITS says they won't have anyone available until the end of the semester
Discovery Weekend
- Korean Peace Day went well with a large turnout for the lecture
- The Comedy Show during Discovery Weekend also went well
- The 9-11 films were screened again in LPAC cinema with a very large turnout
- The Great American Footrace was screened with the filmmakers last week
- The SAO Teahouse was organized during Discovery Weekend
- The MULTI studybreak had a large turnout
- During Discovery Weekend, there was some confusion among specs as to whether the COLORS meeting was open or closed…
- ENLACE hosted the screening of Raising Victor Vargas
The Next ALL-IC Boards Meeting will take place on December 1 st
- We need to work on the temporary sign (now blank) that hangs outside the IC. Is there someone in the community who could create the new sign?
- To be discussed at the meeting: followup on the sign conversations and IC group memberships conversations; layout models for other Intercultural Centers and have a dialogue about our current space
December 2 nd : Discussion on Race and Racial Categories with Profs. Bakirathi Mani and Ann Choi.
Next semester
- Friday February 27 th : Jerry Wood Lecture on the African Diaspora in the Americas
- Bring in poet Mari Posa and Young Puerto Rican youth who do drumming for a larger event.
- the New White Nationalism—Thurs February 5 th (late afternoon/early evening)
SAGER committee
- Rafael talked with Edmund Campos about ideas for this years Sager symposium and how to get profs involved, how to begin the process; One idea is the mainstreaming of Queer culture
- Professors are telling students to just do it; Scheduled for March 26th - 28th (a weekend)
- Possible events include: Jose Muñoz (performance studies at NYU); The Commercial Closet – portrayals of LGBT in advertising; Angels in America ; Tying the Knot – documentary
Series on Race, Gender, Class, and Sexuality (intersections of the above – a venue for discussion):
- Possible screening of Flag Wars in association with this series
Thursday, November 20 th : Yasmin Hernandez – Looks Like Smells Like Revolution – Arts and Activism; 8PM in the IC
Ongoing conversation with MULTI about whether they want to join the IC, about what is realistic, being honest with what the IC can offer and at the same time offer what we can.

- Ann Choi – speaker series for next semester – in conjunction with her class Asian Americans in Pop Culture

- ENLACE is planning an open meeting for the last meeting before finals about Latinos exploring non-traditional religions
- Community Service in N. Philly
Jyothi
- Diya Week activities and events all this week (went successfully)
- DESHI is sponsoring a theatre performance in early December featuring a renowned Indian theatre director/actor/writer
Powen
- SQU's Queerness as a minority discussion – may have an open version soon.
- There are some unresolved issues from coming out week.
- Low-key end of the semester
