Procedure

The mass of a test subject's forearm was measured on a postage scale. The circumference of the arm was then taken at four points.

Colored bands were then attached to the test subject's elbow and hand for computerized visual motion tracking. The subject was then asked to raise his or her arm as quickly as possible to a right angle, stopping immediately. After a few rotations of this motion were recorded, this process was repeated with the subject holding a small weight.
