This analysis has been simplified by noting the development of downhill biking made possible by the rear suspension. The counter argument would be to point out the use of rear suspension on certain cross-country bikes. It is true that rear suspension is becoming more common on cross-country bikes; however the type of rear suspension is drastically different. A good rear suspension on a cross-country bike means that the design is light-weight and the mechanism is stiff through the pedal stroke; the intrinsic properties of the rear suspension are being technologically changed. This said the suspension on the cross country bike is not the same technology that is discussed in this project which dealt with the downhill suspension, but is actually an artifact that is subject to its own Sociotechnical analysis.
