having problems. X has been hit with, as someone recently so eloquently put it, "an ugly stick." As soon as I change anything in the setup -- number of desktops; background -- it reverts from its beautiful normal self (fig. 1) to its new, Ugly-Stick self (fig. 2). Below are sample menus to show the difference.
