Stories
- Rudolphio Written by Valentin Rasputin, and translated from the Russian. He is a modern Siberian author who is quite well known for other works and for his adamant love of the environment. Rudolphio is quite distinct from his other work, which tend to be grounded more strongly in place. However, I feel like in this story he captures a very Russian way of thinking. This story is often excluded from anthologies. As far as I know, my translation is the only one.
- Siberian Fairy Tale This is
my interpretation of a Russian fairy tale. I wrote this soon after leaving Siberia,
where I lived for 5 months in college. I was influenced by the literature that I was
reading at the time, as well as the understated cruelty that sometimes seems central
to life in Russia.
- Prologue Many of you have asked to
read my novel. I have given some of you copies of it. None of you have read it.
Shame on you. It is still undergoing a number of changes, although they are getting closer to the nitpicky level than the massive-overhaul level. If you want to read the end, email me and I will send you the last few chapters, which I am not going to post here. Please send me comments! Any useful
criticism will be gratefully accepted.
