The Bjerre family is lucky to have a well documented geneological record. The Bjerre family maintains it's own website to keep track of the family and to publish the family tree. Bjerre is a Danish name and therefore these websites are in Danish. An English translation has been provided by Bill Bowles, a Bjerre descendent. The Danish Bjerre web site has been updated substantially since the translation was done.
My great grandparents, (names), came to Minnesota as Lutheran missionaries. They had seven children including my grandfather. So it is no surprise that until recently many of the people in the united states who shared my surname were quite directly related to me. Since all of my grandfathers sibblings are now diseased and since many of them had only daughters. The surname is mostly lost from this line of the family.
Though my grandfather, Folmar Bjerre, was born in the United States, he spent a number of his early years in Denmark He spoke fluent Danish, though he refused to teach my father, and he cultivated fond memories of his ancestral homeland throughout his life. He visited Denmark a few times, attending some of te regular bjerre reunions. I have seen some stereo images from his trip there.
A makeshift version of my family tree can be found here. I will be adding pictures and biographical information as I scan images and write about my grandparents and parents. It is my goal to someday get a searchable SQL photo database linked to this page.
Also, if you are a Bjerre living in the United States please drop me a line. I believe that all people with the surname Bjerre are somehow related and that the relationship is proabably well documented. I would like to learn how you are related to the family and how you or your ancestors came to this country. I believe that it is extremely important to remember the lives of our ancestors. They continue to shape who we are in subtle yet meaningful ways.
