Research Experience
:Investigation of the Application of Microprocessor – based Smart Card Technology to Physiological Data Acquisition in Mammals. Studied the operating principles of, and programmed Microchip PIC microprocessors that were subsequently applied to Smart cards for the purpose of collecting physiological data in a dog (summer, 2000).
Math Forum Research Assistant. Researched and cataloged on – line mathematics resources for up to graduate level study by subject and level of difficulty. Functioned as system administrator for an on – line mathematics newsgroup (summer 1999).
In Vitro Studies of the hypoglycemic activity of P – polypeptide in Karella fruit. Extracted and purified P - polypeptide from Karella fruit by Sohxlet procedure, UV spectroscopy and NMR techniques. Assisted professor Ahmindra Jain to purify and increase the percent yield of the protein from the extraction process (summer 1998).
Leadership Experience
Steering Committee Member: Swarthmore Black Studies program: Contributed to choosing and presentation of pertinent classes that comprise the Black Studies program at Swarthmore to the academic review board (Spring and Fall 2000).
Steering Committee Member: Swarthmore mediation organization. Formulated a new modulus operandi for the group to enhance the association’s effectiveness together with other members of the steering committee. Promoted the group’s visibility on campus by communicating association’s activities, purpose and limitations to different dormitories in the college during organized visits to the dorms. Pioneered the idea of and personally designed and posted a web – page detailing the specifics of mediation as a first point of reference for prospective patrons of the conflict resolution process. Facilitated the successful mediation of several cases of dispute (1998, 1999 and 2000).
President: Swarthmore African Students Association. Led groups discussions at its weekly meetings. Assisted in the planning and execution of the Association’s activities. Effectively communicated the organization’s specific ideals and needs during campus wide meeting with representatives of other organizations as well as school authorities. Personally pioneered and coordinated several seminars, talks, and fashion shows hosted by the club. Unanimously endorsed for a second term in office.

Assistant Captain and Captain: International club soccer team. Organized the team's training and other activities. Motivated and guided team to two consecutive finals. Elected captain after serving as deputy captain for two years (1998, 1999 and 2000).
Treasurer: Swarthmore African Students Association. Budgeted for the club activities. Effectively ensued that all club activities received necessary funding. Religiously accounted for club expenditures to the student budget Committee (1997).
Work experience
System Administrator: Installed software, overhauled and generally ensured smooth operation of and user satisfaction with Macintosh machines in the engineering department of Swarthmore College. Also administered a print server (1999 to present).
Public Area Computer Consultant: Assist users with software on windows and Macintosh machines and overseer the proper use of the public area computing resources (1998 to present).
Library Assistant: Aid librarians at Swarthmore College’s general and Science libraries to catalogue print matter. Assist patrons with use of library resources. Answer questions concerning general and department-specific database software applications (1999 - present).
Script dispatcher: Manned the giant printers that insured free printing service for the college community. Distributed printed material by name in specific shelves allocated for that purpose in the public area. Helped patrons solve printing problems (1997 to present).
Front Desk - sitter and Monitor. Functioned as a receptionist for the game - room and List Gallery at Swarthmore College (1997 – 2000).
Specific Skills
Writing
Reported on weekly soccer competition events on campus. Managed and edited a love advice column in the "Phoenix" which is the official mouthpiece of Swarthmore college (Http://www.swarthmore.edu/phoenix). Offered advice to lovelorn singles in search of partners. Regular contributor to "Mjumbe Magazine"(a publication of the black community Swarthmore College). Wrote poems, short stories and on contentious political issues for the magazine (1998 and 1999).

Tutor: Osu St Barnabas Anglican Junior Secondary School. Osu, Ghana. Taught the equivalent of high school kids Biology, Ga Language and Physics. Awarded best Junior High Tutor in Ga language by the Anglican educational unit, Osu Ghana. In addition, Worked on Swarthmore campus as a research- mentor for high school students in the summer for the HHMI program (1998).
Writing Assistant: Engineering department of Swarthmore College. Guided students in the engineering mechanics class to write lab reports. Edited the scripts of specific students and offered suggestions on how to improve the reports (1998 and 1999).
Laboratory Assistant: Engineering department of Swarthmore. Set up and ensured the functioning of laboratory equipment for the E14 Class. Assisted professor Nelson Macken to explain parts of lab that was unclear to students (2000).

Interests and Activities
Drummer: percussionist for Los Cueros, a campus based SALSA and Marenge group. Also held individual African drumming shows during International club week, Africa week and on Dr. Martin Luther King’s day.
DJ: Acted as master of ceremonies and disc jockey for several on campus parties. Hosted a radio show, "Rhythm is an African thing" that showcased the best of African Music on WSRN, the college radio.
