Student Politics
Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, so the saying goes, but I have always enjoyed politics. I have never believed in taking things lying down. At swarthmore I servred on my Dorm council and as the treasure of the African club and the IEE in my freshman year. Currently, I am the Co-president of SASA (Swarthmore Africa students association). SASA is a support groupmthat helps to increase the understandingand awareness of the African eexperience on swarthmore campus
Story Composing And Writting
I have always liked making up little stories. wether publishing them in a jounal a book, a weekly magazine telling them to my friends or enjoying it in my head. Sometrimes I wonder how I ended up as a science major and an engineering major to be precise. However, swarthmore has taught me that writting and the technical sciences like engineering have a lot more in common than I used to trhink. I have written quite a few lab reporrs and research papers in my engine couses since I arrive at swart but these were just anlytical and not imaginative writting. But at least it has afforded me the chance to keep my pen on paper. I used to compose little storeies for my friends back in primary schoola nd actually wrote a few of them down though only to my memory only one of the m ever got published. I did win a lot of writting competions though.
Since arriving at swarthmore college I have been writting for The Phoenix which is the main weekly paper
published by the school. Untill thre current semster, I run an advice column called "pardus' advice column where I adviced forlon lads and lasses on how best to handle their relationships. I also write regularly in Mjumbe, a publication of the Black community at swarthmore
Disc Jockeying
Rythm is something that influences you to a great extent if you have a great sense of it. I have always appreciatedmusic, especially rythmic music so it came as no surprise to me when I fell in love with DJing after only a few tries atr swarthmore college. Together with my good friends Nii Addy And Kwabena Adu, I host a radio show called Ryhtm is an African Thing on the colleges's radio station, WSRN.
We play typically African Music from Afro pop, Reggae, and Soukous to Hi-life. we have had such a positive reponse to this program originally estnblished by my own brother (Joseph Armah) and Sylvia Kwakye from the Local, swarthmore area that we believe we may win the program of the year this time.If you happen to be in the Swarthmore are in Pennsylvannia tune ih to 91.5 Fm from 2pm to 4pm and let us roch your world
Football (Or Soccer as the Americans call it) And ....
Football is my thing. But that is not surprising considering that I am Ghanian, of the same nationality as the Ghanaian Football greats like Abedi Pele, Nii Ordatey Lamptey, Anthony Yeboah and currently samuel Ossei Kuffour of Bayern Munich of Germany fame. I played active football in Ghana and currently at Swarthmore I am the asst captain of the vibrant I-20, the team for the international students. I hope to be the captain next semster. I also enjoy Boxing, dancing, Tennis and singing. For official reports on what is happening in the world ocf soccer see fifa
Mediation
I hate strife. It make me so uncomfortable and I am sure it makes others around me uncormfortable as well. Luckily for me, I believe that I have a gift. I have a very high level of tolerance for people's shortcomings and I hardly lose my temper which aids me a great deal in settling disputes. Of the strifes that I have tried to settle betwwen my friends, I hardly ever remember failing to make peace. On recognising my gift, I joined the Swarthmore Mediation Commitee which assist sto intervene in unhealthy relationships between individulasl on campus. It is a job that I reaaly enjoy
