Poem --

If Only I Could

If only I could run to you and fall in your arms
and whisper soft words in your ears
To ease this metaphor of me
as a kettle on a stovetop
without a spout

If only I could walk up and embrace you from behind
and press my cheek against your back
To free my pillow from the stage
a make believe with the zipper
as your face.

If only I could stop smiling and, stop sighing
and hold my heart from swimming away
Maybe I can just fall asleep and
dream and, well just,
breathe with you .

If only I could.
