Here is where it all came from. The Blues, along with Jazz, are America's music: a fusion of African rhythms and chants, Gospel, and traditional Spirituals. This combination has spawned or influenced much of today's popular music including Rock and Roll, Folk, Jazz, Soul, and Funk. Here at the WSRN Blues department we are devoted to Blues Roots, with a little Funk and Soul mixed in. The likes of Blind Willie McTell, Robert Johnson, and Elmore James are rarely heard on mainstream radio, and WSRN fills this gap with our 13 hours per week of Blues programing. We have two shows on Funk, one on gospel, one on live Blues performances, and the rest concentrate on Roots blues with old rhythm and blues and soul mixed in.
