saturday, 4/15/00, 5:16 pm EST so I did my little rap last night at the "Life Every Voice" Open Mike/Poetry night that I organized. ack! it was really fun and I think it went well, for my part as well as for everyone who shared last night. it was really something that I knew I had to do with the people here before I graduated. I think I had this thought like...by the middle of last semester or something. I absolutely love love love to see people share their talents. It's not really set, the content is completely controlled by them and we all get to enjoy this common experience! *sigh*

enough cheese. it was a night for hippity-hoppiting. so I am glad that I found an audience for the rap that I was writing. I mean, who else would listen but an audience that comes together for an open mike. Of course, THEY can't control the performers and content so they are a docile, unsuspecting and willing audience. :) I want to have more opportunities to write and to perform. I'm a sucker for the edutainment experience that I can capture in my writing. and since I have ditched my freakin' 11 years of instrumental music, I think hip hop is a nice way of fusioning my love for written words/spoken words/rhythm/percussion in to one...at least for now, right? I hope to find people that I can share my ideas and "art" with when I get back to Torrance. I'm looking forward to that. Marissa and I share a common belief in the power of live creative energy. need it. use it. and as cornel west (and I'm sure many other thinkers have figured out) art is the way to transform the depths of difficulties and soul-wrenching struggles into hope and beauty. *sniff* makes you wanna cry don't it?

I'll put my new poem/raps on the web soon I think. but it's almost the end of the road for my webpage here at Swarthmore. I wonder how I can keep my stuff going after I leave this institution? hmmm...let me know any FREE and lotsa memory available alternatives here at my guestbook. :) or you can go to my latest "Opinions" article here. It's actually a POEM that masqueraded as an artice because I was spent my article writing time on it instead. heheh. anyway. take care friendly cyber people.

sunday, 3/19/00, 5:34 pm EST read about cornel west here.
friday, 3/3/00, 12:25 am EST in six hours i'll be leaving for my trip to boston. umass-boston, to be exact. for the LEAP roundtable on the State of Asian Pacific America (tm). it should be good. change of scenery. then Harvard's APALSA conference on Asian Pacific Americans in Law and Public Policy (tm). I sometimes wonder if the "Pacific" is more token then the real center of the APA acronym. we'll see. wish me luck. will see anna and amita. i just can't get away from the east coast, can i? i could be spending this money on a plane ticket back to torrance...for the first time i could spend a weeklong swat break back home. but, no. i'm married to my habits. three years in a row with me and apalsa. it's like celebrating an anniversary every time. i could see my reaction and what i say at various conferences as a timeline of how i have been/evolved in my consciousness/willingness to speak out. interesting stuff. i like my friends. they keep coming back for more. read the above quote again, you silly. go to my writing page. My latest article isn't there but...LUCKY FOR YOU!...it is here. Read about "Honoring Malcolm X" and get back to me. this has been my first column and a definite learning experience. my first articles were not as consistent. i feel like i have a better sense of how to write a newspaper column nowadays. i hope you would agree. the only highlights from my first semester with the column, "Static," is the first article of the semester on Athletes, Minorities and Admissions at swat and the last one on showing friends you care. Word to the wise: skip the other stuff. :) but i'm just rambling. i should sleep. early train. bye!
saturday, 2/19/00, 8:38 pm EST read all about d'angelo, drunk friends, and polisci.
sunday, 2/6/00, 5:36 pm EST I'm tired of my page. I'm tired of my archives. So I got rid of them. I'll bring them back someday when I feel like I want the world to see my past. Right now I feel great about exploring my present.

Lately I've been thinking a lot about our ability to care for one another and how that may translate into public governance. Fundamentally, what is the kind of care that "needy" people really need? If we were to take out material criterion for deciding who needs the government's help, what criterion would take its place? Would this not change the population of people who would fall under the category of needy?
