Information for prospective players!

The team. We are a club team with two seasons. The fall season generally runs from early September to late November and the spring from early February to late April. In the spring we compete in the UPA’s college division, with a Sectionals and Regionals tournaments allowing us to qualify for Nationals. In Spring 2006 we were the only team in the country to have an undefeated record, and were one of two small colleges qualify for UPA College Nationals. There we managed to hold our seed and are proud to be ranked 13th in the country out of hundreds of teams!

In addition to fall and spring competitive seasons, there are coed pickup games once a week and indoor pickup in the fieldhouse a few times a week during the winter. Anyone can come to the pickup games, whether or not they play with the team. The exact schedule varies from semester to semester, so contact the captains for more information.

The sport. Ultimate is a really fun sport for all skill levels. Most pickup games are informal with unstructured play, but competitive leagues play in cleats with set rules and a regulation weight disc. Like other sports, the goal is to get the frisbee into the endzone by passing, but what sets frisbee apart from many other sports is its emphasis on the spirit of the game. There are no referees, players call their own fouls, and disrespectful action towards any player is strongly disencouraged. We run hard, play hard, have a lot of fun!

But I don't even know how to throw a frisbee! Honestly, truly, we swear up and down that that doesn't matter. We will teach you. And if you already do know how to throw a frisbee, we'll teach you some new tricks. Your current skill level is not important- all you need is to want to learn.

Do we get PE credit? Yes. For participation in the spring season, you get some PE credit. Contact the captains for details.

When's the best time to join? It is probably easier to start in the fall season if you've never played before, since it's more laid back and you will get more playing time. However, there are lots of people that start in the spring because of sports and other committments, so it's totally possible to start in the spring.

What should I bring? Bring water, cleats (if you have them- if not, sneakers are fine), a light and a dark shirt, and a disc if you have one.

But I'm a pacifist! It's an anagram of Swarthmore, silly. As is "Earthworms," the name of our men's team. And "smartwhore," "mrs. wart hoe,""trash mower" and "warm others."

Other questions? Contact us. We won't bite, promise.
