Talk about ancient history! George was moved into TIC when it was still the 1980s! Here's the history as I remember it. In the fall of 1986, Swil was given a spare room in the basement of Danawell then known as the Swil room. (Perry Dees had lived in that room the year before, but that's not important right now [you want housing??].) We moved a bunch of stuff into that room that fall. One thing that Swil chose to store in the room was books that could not fit into Cordwainer Bird. In 1987, it was decided to name that collection the George C. Hurliman Memorial Library. The stuff and the memorial library stayed in the Swil room until enrollment grew again, and the room was re-converted into a living space. At that time, Swil was given space in TIC to replace the Danawell room. So we moved all the stuff into it, and it has been there ever since. Storing books in it and calling it a memorial library was an internal decision on Swil's part--it was never a condition of our use of the space that we keep nothing but books there! Where did they come up with that idea? I suppose someone else wants to store stuff in the room, so they're looking for a way to force the Swil stuff out? That's as much of the story as I remember--there are others on the list who might recall more details. Anyone want to add to or to correct this account? Chris
