Movie Committee

What is the Movie Committee?

We are a student-run committee (members are appointed by Student Council’s Appointments Committee) that chooses movies to show the entire campus and helps student groups obtain licenses for films they would like to show to the Swarthmore community.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Alvin Melathe (MC Chairperson 08-09) at amelath1@swarthmore.edu!

Movie Showing Application:

If you want to show a movie to the entire campus for your group, then to comply with copyright laws you must acquire a license for the rights to show it.

Never fear, your friendly Movie Committee is here! Just answer the questions below and send them in a word document to amelath1@swarthmore.edu. Your friendly Movie Committee will vote on your proposal. If your proposal is approved, we will buy the license. YOUR responsibilities are to reserve the space, actually show the movie (which will almost certainly be on VHS or DVD), and advertise for it around campus.

Please note: it can take anywhere from one to three weeks to get a license, especially if the film is rare. Please send your application well ahead of your expected screening date to be sure that we can find and purchase your license in time

That’s it! Fill out the questions below in a word document or download a blank application form (at the bottom of this page), send it to amelath1, and good luck!
