We got our second UPS (uninterruptible power supply) fixed, so we will be rebooting Heron (the login and mail server) at 3pm in order to transfer it over. This will increase our resilience to power flickers during the coming rainstorms.
Update: The transfer was completed successfully, Heron is now back up.

The game pit ceiling received some repairs this past week and the pit is now back in action.

Sorry for the downtime — we hit a serious kernel bug, which for some reason we hadn’t seen before. On the upside, our main server is now running a much more recent version of the operating system, so everything should be just that much shinier.
Everything should be working again — let us know if you’re having any problems at staff@sccs.swarthmore.edu.

As the season changes to fall it’s time to look for new members for the Swarthmore College Computer Society. This annual event, which is a time for much rejoicing, is also known by its more technical term of hiring. If you are interested in becoming one of the curators of the glorious places that are the Media Lounge, Video Pit and Server Room then you should definitely apply.
The application is online; feel free to email staff@sccs.swarthmore.edu with any questions. We are looking for applications within the next week and interviews shortly after that.

We’ve rearranged the computers in the media lounge to celebrate the arrival of a brand new set of keyboards, mice and headphones.
We also have a brand new FOOD POLICY: henceforth the area in the front of the lounge with the couches and the whiteboard shall be the designated area, and there shalt be no comestibles in the computer area.
